Passionate about IT for more than 40 years

As the leading IT solutions and service provider in Switzerland, Ergon transforms digitalisation trends into genuine customer benefits – from the initial idea to market success. And it has been doing so for more than 40 years. Highly qualified Ergonians work in autonomous teams at three sites in Zurich, tackling complex requirements. Their recipe for success in delivering ‘smart’ solutions is strategy, engineering, security, design and unbridled passion.

2014–2024

A generational change at leadership level

Gabriela Keller takes over as CEO of Ergon, leading the company into a new era together with Adrian Berger (MD of Finance & Telecom Solutions), Heiko Faller (MD of Enterprise Solutions), Roman Hugelshofer (MD of Application Security) and Hans-Jürg Schneider (COO).

The Ergon approach to customer proximity

VIAC is a good example of why customer proximity is so important. VIAC launches a pension app for Pillar 3a that Ergon developed right where the start-up founders had their offices. During this time, they refine their concept before launching the award-winning app. VIAC goes on to expand the range of solutions it offers to include ‘VIAC Invest’ for non-restricted securities-based saving unrelated to tied pension provision.

Smart procurement worldwide

Ergon implements a SmartOrdering system for Bossard. It later optimises the procurement process using machine learning. Bossard, the market leader in fastening technology, uses the system to supply production facilities around the world.

A power partnership for 20 years

What do outdoor escape games have to do with business? Quite a lot, according to Ergon. Ergon takes pride in its many trusting, long-standing partnerships with clients. Successes are celebrated together in a spirit of friendship. This is also true of our 20-year partnership with LLB

The rapid development of Airlock

The Airlock Secure Access Hub® now comprises Customer Identity and Access Management (IAM), Gateway (Web Application and API Protection) and Microgateway components in Kubernetes environments. Additional protection is provided by two-factor authentication (2FA) with its modern authentication methods.

Expansion at Ergon

Distance for greater customer proximity – Ergon maintains its production base in Switzerland, but is keen to be closer to its customers in Germany. To that end, Ergon establishes a German subsidiary in Frankfurt to better serve the growing German market.

Less air, more efficiency

At Digitec Galaxus, the air is being squeezed out – and Ergon makes it possible. The largest online retailer in Switzerland optimises its package sizes, reducing packaging materials by 28%. The solution – a model with seven billion variables – is the brainchild of Ergon.

A milestone for Switzerland as a financial centre

Rulematch is the first regulated trading platform for digital assets that is specifically designed to meet the needs of financial institutions. Ergon develops the technological foundation for this innovation – a high-performance, secure platform that sets new standards in crypto trading. This turns the bridge between traditional finance and the digital future into a reality.

From code to the overarching vision

With the expansion of its service portfolio, Ergon is undergoing a strategic transformation – from a pure software engineering company to a comprehensive partner for digital innovation. The portfolio is expanded to include consulting, testing and user experience. True to the motto ‘from the idea to market success’. This combines technical excellence with business acumen and security.

2004–2014

Pioneering IoT project for a global market leader

Ergon implements one of the first IoT applications in Switzerland. Ergon networks a smart valve based on shared logic for Belimo, the global market leader in actuators for heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology. In the years that follow, Belimo continues to place its trust in the expertise of Ergon and takes the step into the Google Cloud.

Software for the SBB icon

‘Tickets, please!’ The red SBB ticket inspection device becomes a trademark. Ergon is behind it. It implements one of the first mobile applications on standard hardware for SBB.

Strong partners right from the start

A significant step forward in retail – Ergon uses the largest Java server system in the world to implement a staff scheduling system at Coop. In the years that follow, the cooperation is further intensified through the development of a mobile inventory management system

Employees have their say

What do the employees think? Ergon introduces a suggestion tool with the aim of encouraging employee involvement and enabling them to contribute to the development of the company. The tool proves hugely popular and is still in use to this day, more than 15 years later.

1994–2004

First online banking solution in Switzerland

People are still getting used to the sound of dial-up modems, yet Ergon implements the first online banking system in Switzerland for Credit Suisse. This is the origin of its profound security and financial expertise, not to mention the beginning of the Airlock security solution.

Ergon – the telecommunications expert

Ergon enhances its telecommunications expertise. For Swisscom, it builds a solution that handles order management and the billing of its international subsidiaries. Ten years later, 15 leading European telecommunications companies, including Cablecom and Liberty Global, are using the solution.

Tech pioneer

Ergon causes a stir on the international tech scene. It is one of the first companies in the world to implement projects in Java. In recognition of this achievement, Ergon is named the first Authorized Java Center in Europe.

Portfolio security

Ergon founds the spin-off Seclutions to distribute and further develop Airlock. In the years that follow, Ergon sells and later buys back Airlock. The security product is continuously expanded and remains an important part of the Ergon portfolio.

Payments in real time

Ergon implements CardX – a high-availability payment authorisation system. The solution continues to evolve over the years. In the years that follow, ATM connections are centralised through SIX and expanded to form an instant payment solution.

1984–1994

Welcome to the world, Ergon!

An idea becomes reality. Inspired by the Greek word ἔργον (Ergon), meaning ‘deed’ or ‘work’, Teddy Graf and Christian Juon found Ergon. Their goal is to implement customer-specific software based on open systems.

First major project

The first major project is not long in coming. Ergon creates a comprehensive telecommunications solution for the major Swiss bank UBS (then SBG). The solution is used to document, manage and internally charge for the global network. This is where the present-day Ergon telecommunications expertise comes from.

Employees buy Ergon

Christian Juon leaves Ergon. The remaining eight employees take over the company in an employee buyout – the origin of the present-day culture of participation and transparency. Because working at Ergon means living and breathing entrepreneurship. The new Managing Director is Patrick Burkhalter.
