Augmented and mixed reality

09.03.2017 – Robert Adelmann

The line between the real and virtual world is becoming increasingly blurred and, along the same lines, the subject of human-machine interaction is also gaining significance.

Augmented and mixed reality are by no means new ideas. However, developments in recent years have meant that their use is becoming increasingly attractive. This includes huge advances in hardware, for example. The entire ecosystem of the media and gaming industry has also improved. From tools for quickly implementing projects through to corresponding job profiles and experts. In addition to this, there are also synergies in other areas: advancements in machine learning are enabling reliable detection of context, gestures and voice commands. In the same vein as the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0, countless new application areas are emerging.

In the long term, the potential of augmented and mixed reality to bring about innovative new products and services, or to enhance those already in existence, is huge. So huge, in fact, that we believe it makes sense to get on board with these technologies as soon as possible. That’s why we have set up a lab for modern human-machine interaction for our customers and employees, equipped with the Microsoft HoloLens, conversational systems such as Amazon’s voice-operated assistant Alexa, and a room-scale virtual reality set-up with the HTC Vive.

We can provide you with support and advice in the area of augmented and mixed reality, and would be happy to welcome you to our premises to test the equipment and discuss potential areas of application.
