Mobile
Already in 1999 Ergon knew the potential of mobile applications. Since then we continuously enhanced our mobile know-how and successfully implemented several mobile solutions. Leading companies from different industries rely on our expertise and use mobile solutions developed by Ergon. Customers with strategic demands on mobile technologies look to Ergon for advice.
iPhone
As a pioneer of mobile technology, Ergon has been involved in the development of iPhone software since the outset and was able to obtain valuable experience of implementing applications at an early stage. In March 2009 Ergon launched iWeather.ch. iWeather.ch is the first Swiss iPhone weather application to access data from MeteoSchweiz and meteoblue directly. It can show the latest weather reports, animated rainfall radar, hour-by-hour 7-day forecasts and wind forecasts for the next 12 hours for 70 observation stations in Switzerland.
In May 2010 meteoblue and Ergon launched meteo4me. meteo4me supplies local weather forecasts for the next six days at any place in the entire world and presents all important weather parameters in hourly resolution.
Mobile applications for SBB
Every day, around 9000 trains travel over the 3000 kilometres of track. The people responsible for ensuring that all the trains arrive at their destination safely, on time and at the correct platform are the 9300 employees of the SBB Infrastructure division. Thanks to a specially developed mobile solution for PDAs, SBB Information Technology and Ergon are making their job easier. As part of the strategic IT project PROCO, an application was developed for mobile terminals in the field which transfers all relevant data directly to the central SAP R/3 system via the mobile network. Previously workers had to record data on paper and then transfer it to the system later. The application provides specific mobile access to a standard ERP system.

Ergon played an essential role in the engineering process of this innovative ticket solution by providing support for security, mobile technologies and testing. The mobile tickets are checked by the Zugpersonalgerät device (ZPG II), which Ergon enhanced for SBB by including the corresponding services.
MobileTicket
For the shunting crews in the track field Ergon developed a mobile solution to order the routes on a PDA in an efficient manner. The communication between the mobile devices and the backend server is done via GPRS over GSM-R, the GSM version for railsways.
The first mobile solution for SBB helps to measure passenger frequency. Frequency data are recorded on a mobile device and are then transferred to a central database.

Mobile Solutions for Field Staff
Ergon offers a broad set of components and solutions for the disposition and resource planning of field staff and logistics: positioning and display of the position of the field staff, of vehicles and of other mobile resources, automatic and manual disposition of mobile resources, personnel planning, OTA (over-the-air) placing of orders and communication with the field staff, and transfer of the order state to the head office.
The BMW Mobile Service uses the Ergon solution for the disposition of the breakdown vans. The closest available van is automatically located and contacted by GPRS or SMS. Every driver has its own PDA and is always in contact with the head office. The orders are received in realtime and can be accepted or denied. Right in the field the driver can enter additional information and send it to the head office. The head office always knows where available breakdown vans are and is capable to optimally schedule.
Mobile Weather Information

Ergon works in the mobile services area in close cooperation with Meteo Schweiz. For the nowadays very popular JavaTM cell phones, Ergon developed together with MeteoSchweiz various weather applications such as a weather forecast for cities, the current weather as a radar film or for avation data. CityWeather and SwissRadar can also be tested in a Web browser.
n 2002 Meteo Schweiz together with Sunrise launched one of the first MMS services in Switzerland. As development progressed, the product palette was expanded broadly. The service has been supported by Swisscom, Sunrise and Orange since early 2003.
Tracking and Tracing
The tracking solution by Ergon Informatik AG implements internet based order tracking with minimal technical overhead and greatly reduced investment and mainenance costs. It is based on Java technology, standard industry terminals with bar code readers, public communication networks and centrally run servers. The system is very flexible, both what regards the hardware on which it can be implemented, and the data that can be traced. Consequently it can easily be adapted to the specific needs of a transport company and integrated with existing software.
First Mobile Services
Since summer 1999, Ergon has absorbed itself intensively with Java for mobile and wireless devices. Youtrade on Palm,, the trading solution for the Palm Vx, was implemented completely in Java and fulfils the highest security needs of the Swiss banks.
Streaming Quotes for MIDP is a market ticker for customers on the go. The usage of Ergon Push Technology results in significantly faster transmission and in a clearly reduced amount of data compared to conventional solutions. Constant polling is unnecessary; instead, compressed updates of the market prices of interest are sent automatically. The market data supplied by Reuters is processed in only a few milliseconds and can then be forwarded to thousands of clients simultaneously.
The Ergon Messenger for MIDP is a fully-functional instant messenger based on Java 2 Micro Edition. Besides supporting fast message transmission to single persons and groups, EMMI also offers considerable new functionality including multi-player games and location-dependent user-lists. Thanks to Ergon Push Technology, personal and game messages enjoy transmission times of less than one second on contemporary GSM networks.
